INSTRUMENTATION TECHNICIAN

 

Position Summary:  The ADA-ES Field Technician/Instrumentation Technician supports the project team by assisting in the installation, start-up, operation, maintenance, and repair of prototype and commercial air pollution control and monitoring equipment, conducting field evaluations and basic lab analysis, reviewing and understanding test documentation and goals.  This position provides support to the Project Engineer/Site Lead to ensure that the planned work is in compliance with engineering principles, Company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:  The essential duties and responsibilities regularly performed and normally assigned to this position are as follows: 

  1. Supports the field testing through time in the field or in direct support of field work (equipment maintenance and repair, basic lab analysis).
  2. Builds or oversees fabrication of prototype test equipment.
  3. Reviews test plans and/or product designs.
  4. Provides status and progress reports, trip reports, equipment recommendations, and technical documentation including wiring and plumbing diagrams for project team and management.

Additional Responsibilities:  
Willingness to work additional hours and/or travel as required.  60% travel may be required at times - with up to 75% required for the next 6 months.

  1. Strong electrical and mechanical skills.  Aptitude with wiring and troubleshooting instrumentation and equipment (pumps, fans, motors). 
  2. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to read and understand drawings.  Ability to perform basic laboratory and field testing following established procedures and guidelines.

  • Education, Certificates and Licenses:
    Associate’s level degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Chemical preferred).
    An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • Entry level to three years of experience conducting research and development at field sites.
  • Experience with mechanical and/or electrical/electronic field repairs.
  • Experience with pumps, fans, electrical systems, pneumatic tubing, and analytical instrumentation.
  • Experience with continuous emissions monitors a plus.
  • Electric power, chemical process or utility industry/power plant experience a plus.
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to stoop and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  These physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
