SYSTEMS PROJECT ENGINEERING MANAGER

 

Position Summary: The ADA-ES Project Engineering Manager provides overall management for project activities including design, engineering, installation, and evaluation within the Emissions Control Systems business unit. This position is responsible for managing technical and commercial aspects of projects involving ADA-ES air pollution control systems installed on coal fired utility and industrial boilers. Responsible for project design, budgeting, quality control and scheduling. Some staff supervision and/or mentoring required.

    Duties and Responsibilities:  The essential duties and responsibilities regularly performed and normally assigned to this position are as follows:

        1. Manages and executes multiple projects, which includes defining project deliverables, activities, milestones, and resource requirements as well as other project tasks. Prepares project reports and presentations as necessary. Assists project team to maintain “big picture” perspective and produce results accordingly. Assigns appropriate resources (internal and external).
        2. Conducts design and specification reviews for all projects assigned.  Maintains detailed understanding of project components and technical areas. Conducts drawing and document reviews.  Prioritizes & delegates tasks and requests. Monitors, analyzes, and communicates project status. Develops and implements solutions. Escalates problems appropriately.  Proactively assess project risk and develops recovery plans. 
        3. Manages client relationships. Understands and communicates client/customer (internal & external) needs and responds proactively and positively to requests. Clearly defines project scope and schedules project tasks and Company resources accordingly. Maintains subject focus, including: definition, budget, approval and scheduling.
        4. Manages sub-contractor interface as required on projects, including monitoring costs and quality.Provides technical support to project management on equipment sizing, vendor selection, and
        5. Acts as mentor and provides career development opportunities for employees. Assists staff to resolve complex or out-of-policy operation issues.
     

    Additional Responsibilities:
    Up to 30% travel may be required. Additional duties and special assignments as required.

    Education, Certificates and Licenses:

    • Bachelor’s level degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering.
    • Master’s level degree a plus.

    Experience:

  • • Five to ten (5 -10) years experience managing engineering projects and consistently completing projects on time and within budget.
  • • Entry level to two (0 – 2) years materials handling or equipment integration and design.
  • • Electric power, chemical process, or utility industry/power plant experience and/or experience in an Architect & Engineering Firm (A&E) or air pollution control systems manufacturer (OEM).  
  • • Solid working knowledge of project management and business process analysis. 
  • •Experience with AutoCAD or other CAD software.
  • •Experience with project scheduling software (MS Project, PrimaVera or Sure Trak).
  • •Previous experience managing customer relations, including responses to unexpected challenges and pressures.
  • •Working knowledge of gas or liquid flow processes and design.
  • •Experience managing project budgets.
  • •Experience with staff supervison.

Computer Skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficient working knowledge of the MS Office Suite and demonstrated ability to learn other software as necessary.  Experience with AutoCAD or other CAD software.  Experience with Project scheduling software (MS Project, PrimaVera or Sure Trak).
