Flue Gas Conditioning
ADA PROVIDES FLUE GAS CONDITIONING CHEMICALS FOR ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATORS

Increasingly stringent air quality regulations have pushed electrical utilities to change their coal sources, upgrade their pollution control systems and even reduce load on units to meet the new emission limits. ADA Environmental Solutions (ADA-ES) has responded to these demands with a family of flue gas conditioning chemicals that improve the performance of Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs) and enable compliance with air regulations.

ADA'S SOLUTION FOR COLD-SIDE ESP PROBLEMS
Many utilities have switched to PRB coals to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions and lower delivered fuel costs. The high alkaline content of PRB fly ash usually contains high resistivity levels. This can cause problems for ESPs, such as lower power output and increased opacity levels. ADA has a chemical solution to resolve this problem – ATI-2001.

What is ATI-2001?
ATI-2001 is a liquid flue gas conditioning agent applied through injection lances in the duct work upstream of the ESP. The chemical is effective for temperatures up to 400°F making it more flexible than SO3 conditioning systems. Our Flue Gas Conditioning Systems also have a much lower capital installation cost.

Product Benefits
  • Reduces fly ash resistivity
  • Increases ESP power levels
  • Reduces opacity
  • Effective up to 400°F
  • No impact on fly ash sales
ADA'S SOLUTION FOR HOT-SIDE ESP PROBLEMS
Plants with hot-side ESPs that have switched to PRB coals are faced with increased maintenance, de-rates and more down time due to shortened ESP cleaning cycles. This is usually the result of “sodium depletion” in the base ash layer on the ESP plates due to the low halogen content of PRB coals. Power levels decrease and opacity increases as this problem worsens with time. ADA has developed a chemical solution to resolve this problem – ADA-37.

What is ADA-37?
ADA-37 is a liquid flue gas conditioning agent applied through injection lances in the duct work upstream of the ESP. The fine particles co-precipitate with the ash to create a conductive layer on the ESP plate. This will prolong the performance of the ESP and allow for longer operation between cleaning of the plates.

ADA-37
Product Benefits
  • Effective temperature range up to 950°F
  • Maintains ESP power levels
  • Prolonged performance between ESP plate cleanings
  • Improved operational reliability
  • No impact on fly ash sales

Chemical Injection Skid
To inject our Flue Gas Conditioning chemical solutions for hot-side and cold-side ESP problems, ADA has developed a chemical injection skid.

ADA will provide a low cost chemical injection skid for use with our proprietary chemicals. It is designed to be a simple and reliable system that will integrate into the plant’s programmable logic controller (PLC). The injection skid is compact, does not take up much floor space and only uses small amounts of power and plant feed water.

The injection lance array will be designed to insure that the chemicals are evenly distributed across the flue gas stream to achieve the maximum desired results. The lances are designed to minimize the collection of deposits and only require a small amount of monthly maintenance.

Installation of Flue Gas Conditioning Equipment
ADA provides installation and start-up support for each plant-site. Our experienced field personnel will guide the plant or its contractors during the installation process to insure that the system will operate as designed. We will also provide equipment training for the plant operations personnel, if needed.

Our injection equipment is designed to be low maintenance and operate trouble free for long periods of time. ADA personnel are available to provide guidance and assistance with operations or routine maintenance.

Try Before You Buy!
All power plants have their own set of unique operating conditions that influence the performane of their ESPs. ADA offers demonstrations of our flue gas conditioning systems at your plant site. We will provide a test skid and lances on a demonstration basis so actual results can be determined, prior to permanently installing one of our systems. Ask us for details.
